Drawing on extensive practical safeguarding and legal experience, CHART supports professionals to think through complex situations, including whether a referral should be made, whether information should be shared, and how to balance confidentiality with safeguarding responsibilities.
Consultation
Consultation or Supervision?
There are many situations where professionals may be uncertain about what actions need to be taken or should be taken. Consultation differs from supervision in that this can be a one-off session and may occur with a clinician alone or with the clinician and their supervisor or multi-disciplinary team. It provides a reflective space in which to consider complex situations.

CHART's consultation service provides professional consultation to help organisations and practitioners consider appropriate safeguarding actions. It is not an emergency service and is not a replacement for emergency services, statutory safeguarding procedures, or the advice of the relevant statutory agencies. Where a child or adult is or may be at immediate risk, you should contact your Local Authority Safeguarding Team and Police.
