Training delivered on Saturday 10th October 2026
We’d like to say a big thank you to Penny for delivering safeguarding training to our team of music therapists. Penny made the session really engaging and informative, bringing the subject to life and making it much more than just ‘another’ training session.
She took the time to listen to us, understand our questions and explain things in depth, making sure we came away with a much clearer understanding.
We really valued Penny’s knowledge, her approachable manner and the way she encouraged discussion. She made us feel comfortable asking questions and sharing our thoughts, which made the whole experience so much more worthwhile. We’re really grateful for the time and care Penny put into the training and would highly recommend her to any organisation or practitioner. We look forward to continuing to work with her in the future.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Penny Rogers for the past six years, both as a fellow musician in the Lyric Chamber Orchestra and through the many chamber music performances in which we have played together. During that time, I have also had the privilege of mentoring Penny as she has increasingly been able to devote more of her life to music, wellbeing, and to developing her considerable skills as a cellist.
Penny is a highly sought-after cellist in Devon, and with good reason. She brings a beautiful, warm sound to her playing, together with an exceptional level of commitment. Whatever she is asked to do, Penny gives it her full attention and energy. She is dependable, thoughtful and wonderfully supportive of the musicians around her.
What makes Penny particularly special, however, is the breadth of experience she brings to her music. Her considerable life skills, combined with her natural musicality, make her a perceptive, sensitive and engaging colleague. She listens — not only musically, but to people — and this quality is enormously valuable in any ensemble or professional environment.
It has also been a genuine pleasure to watch Penny develop as a cellist. She approaches new and sometimes challenging technical demands with intelligence, determination and curiosity. She has a brilliant mind, an excellent sense of humour and, importantly, the ability to embrace challenges positively rather than shy away from them.
Alongside her musical abilities, Penny brings significant knowledge and understanding of health and safety. I believe her experience as a musician gives her an additional and particularly valuable perspective in this area. She understands the practical realities musicians face and is able to approach situations with sensitivity, empathy and sound judgement.
Penny is someone who combines professionalism with warmth, intelligence with humour, and musical sensitivity with a genuine concern for the wellbeing of others.
I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending her. She would bring commitment, insight, sensitivity and a wealth of experience to any role or organisation fortunate enough to have her.

Former Director of Nursing, Devon Partnership Trust & Essex University Partnership Trust
I have known Penny for over thirty years both as her line manager and a valued colleague. She has been involved in Safeguarding for the majority of that time and risen to a senior position in a number of Mental NHS organisations culminating in her final role before retiring as Deputy Director; Safeguarding & Public Protection
Penny is not only an expert in Safeguarding practise but also in the wider legislative framework pertinent to delivering safe, effective, and ethical care to vulnerable people.
Her vast experience includes not only training and supervision, but also, she is a highly competent system reviewer having completed many safeguarding adult, domestic homicide, and child safeguarding practice reviews. She is highly skilled at involving families and staff and ensuring they feel that they have been heard and their concerns have been addressed. She is also vociferous in ensuring that recommendations made are implemented and that learning from these reviews is embedded in practice.
Penny is acutely aware of the need to work across both organisational and service provider boundaries to ensure best safeguarding practise is implemented. She is very aware of the politics and works tirelessly to ensure that what is best for vulnerable people is at the forefront of decision making.

Chroma has been working with Penny Rogers for the last 10+ as both our external independent safeguarding consultant, as well as our primary safeguarding trainer. Chroma works across the health, education and edge-of-care/adoption sectors with a diverse and often challenging caseload, and Penny has been a brilliant safe pair of hands around all aspects of safeguarding. As well as providing very detailed and relevant safeguarding training supported by legally compliant and usable policies, Penny has also talked through many practical safeguarding situations, happy to be in the grey area working things out with us. We're delighted to call Penny a trusted collaborator and friend of Chroma.

Penny is a safeguarding training magician. When I used to tell my staff of music tutors that we needed to refresh our safeguarding training the response was mostly 'Oh no, not that again...'
After two refreshes over the past few years, we all look forward to her safeguarding sessions. They are fun, interesting and most importantly, everyone comes out feeling that it was worth doing.
Can't recommend Penny highly enough!
