I have known Penny for over thirty years both as her line manager and a valued colleague. She has been involved in Safeguarding for the majority of that time and risen to a senior position in a number of Mental NHS organisations culminating in her final role before retiring as Deputy Director; Safeguarding & Public Protection
Penny is not only an expert in Safeguarding practise but also in the wider legislative framework pertinent to delivering safe, effective, and ethical care to vulnerable people.
Her vast experience includes not only training and supervision, but also, she is a highly competent system reviewer having completed many safeguarding adult, domestic homicide, and child safeguarding practice reviews. She is highly skilled at involving families and staff and ensuring they feel that they have been heard and their concerns have been addressed. She is also vociferous in ensuring that recommendations made are implemented and that learning from these reviews is embedded in practice.
Penny is acutely aware of the need to work across both organisational and service provider boundaries to ensure best safeguarding practise is implemented. She is very aware of the politics and works tirelessly to ensure that what is best for vulnerable people is at the forefront of decision making.
